As described on our skin growth removal page, moles are common. Moles are small, usually brown spots that may change in appearance over time. In most cases, moles are benign.
Moles can be unsightly or appear in cosmetically sensitive areas. If you have a mole and are concerned or want it removed - visit our office to identify its type and develop a plan for removal.
Usually, moles do not need to be removed! We recommend that you take note of the moles on your body and begin to check the size, color, and shape. A change in these characteristics may indicate an issue, so you should have them evaluated!
If the mole must be removed, there are typically two ways to do so:
- Surgical Shave: We will numb the area around the mole and then use a blade to shave off sections of the mole. With this process, no stitches are required. It will be tested for cancer.
- Surgical Excision: We numb the area around the mole, then cut out the mole and stitch the area closed. It will be tested for cancer.
Remember, removing a mole is a simple, in-office procedure!
